Vignette

A painting which is shaded off around the edges leaving a pleasing shape within a border of white or color. Oval or broken vignettes are very common.<br><br>Decorative design or illustration fade to white.<br><br>A decorative design placed at breaks in an article, at the beginning or end of a book or chapter of a book, or along the border of a page.
