Stabile

DEFINITION

A type of 20th century sculpture which consists of a stationary object, usually on a base of some kind. Described in contrast to a mobile, the free-hanging sculptural invention of sculptor Alexander Calder, stabiles were also created by Calder.<br><br>An abstract sculpture that has movable parts similar to a mobile, but that is attached to a solid, unmovable base rather than suspended.
