Society of illustrators

DEFINITION

Founded in 1901 in New York City by nine artists to "promote the art and appreciation of illustration, as well as its history and evolving nature", the Society of Illustrators continues as an educational and exhibition entity. Members are voted into admittance by being proposed by one active member, being sponsored by four additional ones, and completing an application form. Headquarters are at 128 East 63rd Street.
