Peale museum

DEFINITION

Founded in 1814 in Baltimore, Maryland with the name "Peale's Baltimore Museum and Gallery of Fine Arts". Founders were members of the Peale family of painters headed by Charles Willson Peale and including his sons and daughters: Rembrandt Peale, Raphaelle Peale and Sarah Miriam Peale. In 1931, the Peale Museum became the Municipal Museum of the City of Baltimore. In addition to works by the Peale family, the collection has maps, engravings, paintings and lithographs relating to the city of Baltimore.
