Order of canada

DEFINITION

The highest merit award within the Canadian honor system, it is a recognition with a fellowship grant of outstanding life-long contributions in every field of endeavor, which resulted in significant positive changes in Canada. It is administered by the Governor General-in-Council on behalf of the Queen of Canada, who is also the Queen of England. The award was created in 1967 to coincide with the centennial celebration of the formation of the of three British colonies into four Canadian provinces.
