Openwork

DEFINITION

Openwork is what many call any object or architectural construction produced in such a way that it shows a pattern of openings (perforations, piercings, gaps, holes), typically to decorative effect. Such works can be in cloth, metal, or wood. When referring to work in fabric, it likely to be embroidery with decorated holes either the embroidery technique or the embroidery itself in which holes are formed in a fabric by either cutting or pulling threads and then embellishing with various stitches.
