Memory painting

DEFINITION

Paintings with themes of 'memories of youth' and 'disappearing life-styles'. These expressions are by artists who see life getting increasingly complex, which, in turn causes them to think back sentimentally to days that were more simple. American artists who have done Memory Painting include Clementine Hunter, Annie Wellborn, and Aaron Birnbaum. Source: Chuck and Jan Rosenak, "Contemporary American Folk Art: A Collector's Guide"
