Los carpinteros

Los Carpinteros (The Carpenters) are three Havana,Cuban artists: Daboberto Rodriguez Sanchez, Marco Antonio Castillo Valdes, and Alexandre Arrechea. Associated since 1991, and adopting their name in 1994, the trio worked together until the departure of Alexandre Arrechea in June 2003. The decision to renounce individual authorship refers back to an older guild tradition of artisans and skilled laborers and the merging of architecture, design, and sculpture. However, Los Carpinteros express it in unexpected and often humorous ways, and create installations and drawings that negotiate the space between the functional and the nonfunctional.
