Pictures created to supplement and interpret printed text such as books, advertisements and magazines, illustration brought prestige to many who became highly adept such as N.C. Wyeth, Norman Rockwell, Frederic Remington, Charles Russell, Joseph Pennell, Maxfield Parrish and Howard Pyle.
