Gothic art and architecture

A style of architecture and art dominate in Europe from the 12th to the 15th century, Gothic architecture features pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and often large areas of stained glass. It is especially noted for the great cathedrals of Europe such as Notre Dame in Paris with flying buttresses, "which made possible thin stone walls and an airy interior space."
