Effigy

A likeness or image, especially of a person. A likeness of a deceased person, when placed on his tomb, is usually called an effigy. Now, more often a crude figure or dummy of someone despised; a symbolic image of a person. Perhaps this latter sense arises from a wish that the subject were dead.Examples: Central America, Costa Rica, Guanacaste-Nicoya, Rosales Zoned Engraved Female Effigy, Period IV, 300 BCE
