Drybrush

DEFINITION

A technique used with watercolors, acrylics and inks, the brush, only slightly moist with water, is held almost flat against the paper to achieve a broken or mottled effect. In oil painting, the equivalent process is called Dragging. Drybrush artists include John Marin, Andrew Wyeth, Charles McIlhenney, and Doug Higgins.
