Desensitize

A process in which repeated sensory or cognitive stimulation results in a decreased awareness of those stimulations. To art teachers of special education students, desensitization is the process in which materials or methods are gradually introduced to those who may have an aversion to them. As acceptance begins, quantity and exposure time are increased. This technique is particularly useful in with tactually defensive students.
