DEFINITION

Opened in Buffalo, New York in 1931 and operating until 1958, it was an art school operating with the University of Buffalo's School of Education so that enrollees could get university credit. The school had a reputation as attracting modernist radicals or "bohemians". Well-known faculty members were Charles Burchfield, Edwin Dickinson, Isaac Soyer and David Foster Pratt.
